only reading spooky books for a week: my reviews xx

since spooky romance books are my absolute fave and we're in the spookiest month of the year, I wanted to make sure I squeezed in as many as possible from my tbr to make the most of my favourite season. So this past week, I dedicated my reading to spooky romances only, I had the best time and now I'm in the perfect spooky halloween mood. Here are my reviews xx

POSSIBLE SPOILERS

1. Enchanted to Meet You by Meg Cabot

2.5 stars

this book has been on my tbr since it came out a couple years ago, so I was so happy to finally read it. This read was okay but definitely not a favourite. The parts of the book I did enjoy was the atmosphere, setting and the witchy vibes, it did feel like I watching a witchy tv show which is way I rated it 2.5. However, the ending did let me down abit, I felt like it was very rushed and didn't feel fully wrapped up. I felt like the build up was a very big part of the book and then the solution/ending just felt rushed and unfinished. I also didn't really connect to the main characters nor the romance, the romance felt rushed, undeveloped and lacked chemistry. The fmc is plus size which is brilliant but the writing and description came across abit fat phobic. I also thought the mmc was very annoying and both characters were abit immature. Overall, I loved the witchy setting and vibes and the premise was so exciting but the ending and the undeveloped characters let the story down.

blurb

It’s Magic When You Meet Your Match In her teenage years, lovelorn Jessica Gold cast a spell that went disastrously wrong, and brought her all the wrong kind of attention—as well as a lifetime ban from the World Council of Witches.

So no one is more surprised than Jess when, fifteen years later, tall, handsome WCW member Derrick Winters shows up in her quaint little village of West Harbor and claims that Jess is the Chosen One.

She’s the Chosen One Not chosen by West Harbor’s snobby elite to style them for the town’s tricentennial ball—though Jess owns the chicest clothing boutique in town. And not chosen finally to be on the WCW, either—not that Jess would have said yes, anyway, since she’s done with any organization that tries to dictate what makes a “true” witch. No, Jess has been chosen to help save West Harbor itself...

As Summer Ends, Her Power Grows But just when Jess is beginning to think that she and Derrick might have a certain magic of their own—and not of the supernatural variety—Jess learns he may not be who she thought he was. And suddenly Jess finds herself having to trust Derrick and work with him to combat the sinister force battling to bring down West Harbor, or use her gift as she always to keep herself, and her heart, safe. Can she work her magic in time?

2. Soul Searching by Lyla Sage

3.5 stars

soul searching was my first Lyla Sage book. I've heard such good things about her rebel blue ranch series so i went in intrigued and excited to learn her writing style and her characters and I wasn't disappointed. I really enjoyed the setting of the small haunted town, Lyla's writing is very atmospheric and I could picture the town and all its spookiness perfectly!! the atmosphere was moody, cosy and autumnal, the perfect setting for one of fav parts of the books, the ghosts!! I love the ghosts so much, it was such a good background/side plot to the romance, I loved learning about the ghosts and all their stories, it was very fun! The pacing for me was a little bit slow, so towards the end I felt myself becoming a bit disinterested but still overall I did enjoy it!! The romance for me was good, it did feel little bit surface level but overall a good solid read perfect for this season!!xx

blurb:

Collins Cartwright does not want to go home. Sweetwater Peak, Wyoming, was supposed to be in her rearview mirror, but when she finds out a developer is trying to buy her parents’ antique shop out from under them, she doesn’t have a choice—at least, that’s what she tells her family. They don’t need to know she’s lost her job and is out of money. Or that the ghosts that have always been her companions have recently gone silent.

But just because she’s returned home doesn’t mean she has to stay with her parents or crash on her twin sister’s couch. Lucky for her, the new-to-town upholsterer has a room for rent above his store. Unluckily, it is absolutely crawling with more ghosts who are freezing her out. And Collins hates being ignored.

Brady Cooper is absolutely and totally fine. Seriously, there’s no secret reason why he decided to uproot his life and suddenly move to Sweetwater Peak. He just needed a change of pace. At least, that’s what he tells himself. And everyone else.

When he agrees to let the elusive Collins Cartwright stay in his spare room, he doesn’t know that she’s absolutely bonkers—constantly talking to herself and having conversations with no one—or that she looked like that. But as they begin to get closer, the lines between them start to blur, leaving both of them—and the ghosts that have been pushing them together—wondering whether or not their temporary arrangement could be something more permanent.

3. Ghost Business by Jen Deluca

3.5 stars

I really enjoyed this book!! this was my first Jen DeLuca read and I loved her writing style and characters so much that my current read is haunted ever after which is the first book in this series! the found family, small town vibe and connection between all the characters was so enjoyable and added to the overall appeal of this book. Enemies-to-lovers isn't my fav trope but I did find myself enjoying it in this story, both characters came across well-developed and I loved how the romance progressed organically and slowly. I really enjoyed the pacing and timeline of this book. I adored the supernatural element of the ghosts, it really added to the overall atmosphere, it was so fun!!

blurb

Boneyard Key, Florida, is the only home Sophie has ever known. Her love for its supernatural history has flourished into a career, as she guides the one and only ghost tour through the town’s can’t-miss haunted spots. And while her bank account isn’t full by any means, her heart is. Or at least, it was.

But there's a newcomer in town. The son of a Fortune 500 businessman, former theater kid Tristan has grown his tours from a fraternity fundraiser to a multicity ghost tour conglomerate. It’s doing well, but not well enough—if he can’t prove that he’s solidly in the black by the fall, Dad’s going to pull his funding, spelling the end of his career. Boneyard Key, with its haunted reputation, seems like the perfect place to boost his bottom line.

When the two ghost tours clash, Sophie’s expletive-filled rant goes viral, and the rivals strike up a deal. Whoever has the most successful business by summer’s end stays, while the loser must ghost. But the more Tristan comes to appreciate Boneyard Key, the more Sophie comes to appreciate Tristan, and what starts as begrudging respect becomes something spicier. Can they put their feuding businesses aside to make room for a chance at love, or is Boneyard Key too small for two ghost tours?
